Hi folks! The housewarming party was a great event, congratulations to all who worked so hard to get this project underway and continued all the way through, reminds me of something I read not too long ago, “Time is a sort of passing events, and strong is its current: no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away” I look forward to hearing about the next event taking place in Kipling. I know one will be continue raising money for the second phase of the health center, which reminds me Kennedy does have a beautiful quilt which we are selling tickets on, for the purpose of the hospital, this will be drawn 13 of October. So you know what, get your names in, besides there will be a set of Kings flannel sheets and a lovely hamper. All for less than $2.00 (pay as you pull).

Gibbs

Edward James Gibbs was born June 27, 1921, at Windthorst, Saskatchewan. Ted was the second eldest of six brothers. He passed away suddenly Tuesday, August 29th, 2006, in his home in Acme, Alberta.

“Ted” was a WWII veteran having served as a volunteer with the Allied forces, then with the Canadian forces from 1940 through 1945. He was one of the many brave souls who landed at Juno Beach on “D” day and helped liberate Europe. After many years in the automotive industry in Calgary, Ted moved his family to a new home in Acme where they farmed until 1998 when the farm was sold.

Ted’s passion was his farm and he especially enjoyed haying and running combines. Ted lived out his days with his wife Elizabeth “Betty” in their acreage home Acme. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Betty; his sons Wayne, Jeffrey and Lionel and his daughters Christine, Sheila, Barbara and Susan, his brothers Kenneth and Robert. Grandchildren Sandra, Andrew, Nicola, Ian, Linley, Sophie, Brett, Kenneth, Jennifer, Sarah, Jackie, Paige, Natalie. Great-grandchildren Jack, Archer, Scarlet, along with his many friends in the Acme and Linden communities.

Ted will be remembered for all his character and antics, as a father, grandfather, friend and mentor. His ashes will be interred next to his brother in the Gibbs family plot, in the Village of Windthorst, Saskatchewan.

If you are between the ages of 12-18 (male or female) and would like to join the Army Cadets talk to Mr. Rod Holowaty of Kipling.

Cadets meet once a week, on Wednesdays, in Montmartre. There is no cost to join. Uniforms are supplied free of charge.

Depending on how many cadets there are, parents take turns driving. A driving schedule will be made up when the number of cadets is determined. They leave from “The Den” downtown Kipling, at 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday.

Embracing a mind-blowing concept

To the Editor:

Kipling has been my home for all my life except for the three years in the Royal Canadian Navy.

I have seen the streets blowing with dust, I have seen poverty in our town. I have witnessed the struggles to put water and sewers as part of our infrastructure. Paving was a contentious issue. I also have seen a lot of fun times like carnivals, bonspiels, sports days and homecomings.

To the Editor:

I am writing this in regards to the festivities that took place this Long weekend in Kipling. What a great event! The memories created this weekend are priceless for both me and my 4 year old daughter.

The citizens of Kipling not only made us feel welcome but by the time we left, we felt like family.

My daughter is still talking about the fireworks on Sunday night, and honestly, so am I.

“Hoof them out right now.”

To the Editor:

Thousands of delegates from around the world came here to Canada last month for an international aids conference. They each signed a temporary visitor contract promising that they would leave immediately after the conference was over, and would not try to stay here.

The conference ended three weeks ago but (more than 130, reports say) of them didn’t go home. Instead they hid and have now applied for refugee status claiming that if they go back to their countries they will not be treated as well as they would be here in Canada. Every one else among six billion other people on earth could say that.

As I See Em’

Hats off to all involved in making Saskatchewan’s Biggest Housewarming Party, Ever, a memorable event for all concerned. It was not without its glitches, of course, as can be easily understood when such a monumental undertaking is arranged in just a few short weeks. But all in all, it was a wonderful weekend and all who had a part in making it so, should be proud. The old saying, “and a good time was had by all,” was perhaps never more apropos.

The Greatest Love

A teacher asked her class, “If there are 20 sheep in the pasture and two of them leave, how many are left?” One boy’s answer intrigued her. “None,” he replied. “How can that be? You don’t know your Math,” The teacher said. “You don’t know sheep,” the boy replied.

The story is told of a man who didn’t believe in God, and he didn’t hesitate to let others know how he felt.: “Why would God lower Himself to come to Earth as a man? That’s ridiculous!”

Report from the Legislature

While unions were taking the time this past Labour Day weekend to celebrate their achievements, the Town of Kipling and surrounding region gathered for the Largest House Warming Party in Saskatchewan.

I’m certain many people have followed with interest the exploits of Kyle MacDonald and his red paper clip. His trade for a part in Corbin Bernsen’s movie, Donna on Demand, for a house in Kipling opened the door for this weekend of festivities.

The community, economic development officer, Mayor and Council, business district, volunteers and the many visitors who came to celebrate, deserve a huge hand for organizing such an orderly and well planned event.

To say Nolan Hubbard is excited about his upcoming role in Donna On Demand, would be an understatement.

“I’ve wanted this since I was, like, ten!” Hubbard told a wildly cheering audience on learning of his selection.

The 19-year-old impressed movie producer Corbin Bernsen of Public Media Works and wowed the crowd in Saturday’s final competition to earn the role over 11 other finalists. In all, more than 100 read for the audition and an open casting call during two weekends.

Hubbard says his winning the role is like a dream come true.

Pink Bunny

September 1 to 3, 2006, will long be remembered in Kipling.

At the height of activities associated with what was billed as Saskatchewan’s Biggest Housewarming Party, Ever, there would have been nearly as many guests and visitors in the town as there are permanent residents (pop.: 1140).
