Thanks largely to $171.9 million in higher tax revenue reflecting a strong and growing economy, the 2006-07 Mid-Year Report forecasts a $402.3 million revenue improvement for the year over Budget.
“The strong economy is allowing us the freedom to cut taxes and make major new investments in social programs to make life better for Saskatchewan families,” Finance Minister Andrew Thomson said.

Scotty and Fiddy are in the home stretch.
The Scotty and Fiddy watch continues and we find our heroes closing in on their goal of visiting the fifty U.S. state capitol buildings in fifty days.
The Rural Municipality of Silverwood continues to have a problem in filling its vacant Division 1 seat on Council.
A second call for nominations passed Nov. 13 with no candidates coming forward. Council has set Dec. 18 as the third nomination day for the now vacant position.
Montmartre Co-operative has announced to its members that its Glenavon branch will close on January 20, 2007.
The Co-op operates one of two grocery stores in the community. Groceries will continue to be stocked through the holiday season.
A letter distributed to members states “deteriorating operating results proved it to be no longer feasible” to keep the Glenavon store open.
Written tenders will be accepted on the building, either with or without the gas pumps.
Saskatchewan students and communities will benefit from major upgrades to schools throughout the province this year. The Government of Saskatchewan announced approximately $22.5 million in the 2006-07 Mid-Year Report to improve the learning environment in pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 schools and to cover construction inflation costs.
“Investments in education will continue to focus on meeting the needs of families and ensuring their children grow into healthy and well-educated adults,” Learning Minister Deb Higgins said. “Support for these projects demonstrates the govern-ment’s commitment to providing modern, well-equipped learning facilities for Sask-atchewan students.”
The silence, as they say, is deafening, but much has been going on behind the scenes at Kipling Film Productions Inc.

Last month Julie Pinney from New Westminister, B.C. spent a week holidaying with John and Hilda Izsak and family. Later in the week Ed and Deanna Rogalski from Esterhazy came to have supper with John and Hilda and Darren and Sheila Szakacs and family paid an evening visit. Julie is John’s sister.
We’re told ticket sales for the Lions sponsored Kipling Dinner Theatre have stalled, perhaps because people think that supporting the fund to build the Kipling Medical Clinic is unnecessary, since after all, it now exists. That is not exactly the case. Of the $200,000 target set for donations, only about $140,000 has been received to date (see chart on page 10). The balance was “borrowed” from reserves earmarked for what is hoped will be the next step - a new integrated facility. It is now a matter of replenishing those reserves.
The love of God is eternal, supernatural, overflowing, abounding, powerful, everlasting, inseparable, without fear, beyond knowledge, a mystery. Why we are afraid of God is a mystery to me.
We suffer from tunnel vision when it comes to our faults. We see only the bad things we do. We forget all that we have done that is righteous and holy. Retired people and seniors are especially prone to this.
Open letter to Agricore United customers:
On November 7, 2006, Saskatchewan Wheat Pool (SWP) announced through the media its intent to take over Agricore United through a share exchange. They are calling it a merger. It isn’t. It is a hostile proposal.
We know the difference. A friendly merger includes open dialogue between both parties, exchange of information to determine fair value for both sides and ironing out important issues such as Competition Bureau concerns prior to making an announcement.
Timing, it has been said, is everything! It appears that Kipling’s time is now. Whether it is divine intervention, kismet, the perfect alignment of the sun, moon, planets and stars or simply circumstances begetting circumstances, Kipling is the place to be!
That feeling was never more evident than at the November 7th public meeting with Corbin Bernsen, of Public Media Works, and Wally Start from Angel Entertainment Corporation. Corbin addressed the gathering and reaffirmed the connection he has found in Kipling and his willingness to help launch an amazing, “the sky’s the limit” opportunity.
