Production of film could be Kipling’s next claim to fame

The small Saskatchewan town that made it big by trading a house for a movie role with Kyle MacDonald, has formed a film financing company that will see its first project entitled “3 Day Test” begin production in February 2007.

An official launch of the company as well as the release of the film’s movie poster will be held on Main Street Kipling Tuesday December 5, 2006 at 6 pm with Corbin Bernsen in attendance.

A white Christmas after all!

Those hoping for a white Christmas will get their wish. A weather disturbance which moved in Monday night had residents digging out from under a thick blanket of snow Tuesday morning. There was more snow and blowing snow Wednesday, with temperatures in the minus 20 range, which tells us winter has officially begun.CITIZEN PHOTO

New legislation allows Saskatchewan to sue tobacco industry for health care costs

The government of Saskatchewan has introduced legislation that continues its efforts to protect the health of Saskatchewan people and raise further awareness of tobacco-related illness.

The Tobacco Damages and Health Care Cost Recovery Act enables the province to sue the tobacco industry to recover the health care costs of tobacco-related illness and disease.

Liberals want to keep gun registry

Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative government must signal its recognition of the importance of strong, effective gun control by abandoning its plans to scrap the federal gun registry, said Liberal Leader Bill Graham, who participated in a press conference with the Dawson Committee for Gun Control in Ottawa November 28.

Generous donation by Windthorst Lions Club

Windthorst Lions Club has made a sizeable contribution to Kipling District Health Foundation. The Club raised more than $6,000 for the health foundation with its recent Supper and Auction Night and at a recent meeting voted to top up that amount to $10,000! The presentation was made Saturday by Lions President Garnet Smalley (left) and Auction Coordinator Lion Dennis Miller (at right) to Health Foundation Secretary Lorne Rygh.

New strategic plan for Sun Country

Sun Country Regional Health Authority (SCHRA) Board of Directors approved a motion at its regular monthly meeting to develop a new, three-year strategic plan.

The Board met on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan.

Kipling Film Productions Inc. adopts design for its new logo

Kipling student Nicole Levey submitted the winning design for Kipling Film Productions’ logo. Nicole then was consulted by local artist Clayton Kertai in the modification of the logo. Finally, a refined computer image of the two artists’ concept was created as the finished product, which will be used in the opening credits of the film “3 Day Test” and will be featured prominently on the new company’s signage, website and stationery.
