Kipling Council Meeting

A regular meeting of the Council of the Town of Kipling was held December 11, 206 in Council Chambers.

Mayor Kevin Hassler presided over the meeting, with Aldermen Duane Leicht, Mark Olson, Darren Szakacs, Kevin Kish, and Max Krescy and Administrator Gail Dakue in attendance.

In addition to enjoying the traditional visit from Santa Claus, the crowd at Kipling and District Chamber of Commerce’s annual “Our Gift to You” Family Night were royally entertained by this group of young carollers.

Calvert concludes Harper planning to break promise

It appears the federal Conservative government is preparing to break its $800 million equalization promise to Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert said following his meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Ottawa last week.

“Nothing that the Prime Minister said would indicate that he intends to keep his promise to Saskatchewan,” Calvert said. “Therefore I conclude that the Prime Minster intends to break his promise to the people of Saskatchewan.”

Protective Services Medal for Olver

Lorne Olver was presented with a Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal by the Honourable Dr. Gordon L. Barnhard, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan along with 34 other receipients from Regina and other districts in Saskatchewan. Also attending was Travis Olver from Estevan, currently the E.M.O. for Town of Kipling.

Kennedy-Langbank School Board to Hold Public Meeting

As most of you already know, Kennedy-Langbank School has been placed under review for possible closure by the Prairie Valley School Division.

During the months of January and February, the PVSD will be conducting public meetings in the various communities slated for possible closure. The meeting for Kennedy-Langbank has been set for Monday, January 29, 2007 (exact time TBA) and will be run in a question-and-answer format.

CWB could not easily be reinstated

The leader of the official opposition, Hon. Stephane Dion, has been quoted as saying that if Harper’s Conservative Government dismantles the Canadian Wheat Board, he would reinstate it once the Liberals got back into power.

Clinics going very well

Thank you to the residents of Kipling for attending the blood donor clinic held on Tuesday, December 5 at the Kipling Recreation Centre.

Canadian Blood Services would like to thank all our returning and new donors for helping make our clinic in Kipling a success. We collected 76 units of blood.

Motion refers to ‘les Quebecois’

That Ottawa, Charest at odds on ‘Québécois’ meaning is the lesser of the problems arising from the motion passed November 27th with all party support in the House of Commons. By far the greater problem is headlines in both the Canadian and international media that the motion recognized Quebec as a nation.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

A look, a gesture, a phrase - we are exposed to millions of them throughout the course of a year. Some will stay with us like warm fuzzy blankets, while others will nudge uncomfortably at our subconscience like gravel in our shoes. And yet others will instantaneously melt away, as if they hadn’t happened at all.

As the year winds to a close, I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to reflect back on some of these encounters and compose my annual list of most influential people of 2006.

Bedfellows

Surprise Surprise! Brad Wall and his Saskatchewan Party are in bed with Stephen Harper’s Torys! According to a Nov. 16 Leader Post article and CBC news, The Saskatchewan NDP brought forth a motion calling on the federal conservatives to “respect current federal legislation and to honor the democratic process” by allowing all producers to vote on any changes to the CWB. With the exception of Glen Hart (Last Mountain-Touchwood) the Sask. Party voted en masse against the motion!
