The Science Fair held at Kipling School on March 18 showcased many interesting projects. The wide array of displays ranged from electric vehicles to recycling plastic milk jugs to alternative cancer treatments - just to name a few.

Grade nine student, Susan Fisher, took first place overall at the science fair with her very impressive research into virtual fencing. Fisher tested the reliability of virtual fencing to keep cattle from wandering. “There was lots of wildlife so the electric fences were always breaking. We were always fixing fences,” said Fisher.

While some farmers hit the ground running as fast and as far away from farm life as possible, others chose to embrace it.

Thirteen-year-old Logan Meszaros helps out on his family farm in a big way. “He pretty much does anything and everything on the farm,” said Jo-Ann Meszaros, Logan’s mother. “He does chores for us. He can feed the cattle, drive the tractor - he’s our hired man and our right hand man all in one.”

Before they started the chemo, Austin’s bottom gum had doubled in size, his teeth looked like they were sitting in jelly and that a dime could sit between each of the teeth.

Austin’s protocol started the afternoon of December 3 with the Reduction Phase, which introduces chemo to the body slowly. They also started hydrating him making him pee every 2 hours day and night, measuring his inputs and outputs.

Aaron A. Barsi, Kipling, Sask. died on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at the age of 84 years. The funeral mass was celebrated in St. Anne’s R.C. Church, Kipling, Sask. on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Joseph Strohhofer. Cremation with interment at a later date.

Aaron was born at his parent’s farm near Kennedy, Sask. on August 24, 1923, the youngest son of twelve children. Aaron began running the family farm at the young age of 16 and continued to farm in the Kennedy area until he retired in 1987. Next to his family, Aaron’s passions were bluegrass music and wood carving. Evidence of this can be seen in the beautiful instruments and carvings that he created and the music that he loved to play. He took great pleasure in gardening and was always proud of the incredible tomatoes he grew. Aaron loved fishing and there weren’t many nice days that passed where you wouldn’t find him and Helen in their boat on Crooked Lake catching the big one. Aaron will be deeply and sadly missed by all who knew him.

Aaron was predeceased by his parents John and Julia Barsi and two twin boys at birth. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen Barsi; his sons Ron (Diane) Barsi, Dan Barsi and Clifford (Chip) Barsi; his daughter Cathy (Darcy) Foster and his grandchildren: Nathan, David and Samantha.

The arrangements were entrusted to Michael Rey of Tubman Cremation and Funeral Services.

Last week’s Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities convention was a success, although Lorne Rygh, the Reeve for the RM of Kingsley was disappointed in the federal government.

Rygh, like the rest of the delegates attending the convention in Regina, was surprised not only the Minister of Agriculture failed to present a speech or discuss matters with the RMs, but that the federal government did not send any representative.

Austin Barclay Green, born first of our four children, received news that would change his life. We his parents, Jason and Cindy(Bertalon) Green were horrified when this one word entered our family bringing complete chaos.

Just after October 16, 2007, Austin’s 12th Birthday his 12 yr old molars came through and caused nothing but problems. On both sides, of the lower gum were white pussy bumps that made it hard to chew. I took him into the dentist on October 22, it was suggested that the molars had came up, but took either plaque or food particles back under with them. The dentist could not do anymore at this time until they came through, and we were to go home and use Orajel and Tylenol to control the pain.
