With the birds chirping and trees blooming, nature is quickly preparing us for another very exciting time of the year… You guessed it, summer time at the Moose Mountain Provincial Park!
I was wondering if Darcie Thom of the Citizen Staff could clarify her statement she made in the May 2, 2008 issue of the Citizen. Quote ” with the snow gone and spring slowly making its way in, The Town of Kipling is looking a bit sluggish”. Well I understand that you are the Citizen staff news reporter and if you haven’t noticed that in the past 2 weeks the Town of Kipling has done a complete sweeping of all their streets, whether be on the street, boulevard or park areas. We also have several garbage cans placed around town and they are cleaned weekly or on a need be basis. I along with my staff, Mayor and council take very much pride in the way the Town of Kipling looks and have for the past 18 years. I can alone speak for myself but I was and am very offended by her statement. Maybe next week’s topic could be, how we can acknowledge the People that keep our Town looking so clean. Like for instance, Town staff and summer students, communities in Blooms Volunteers, Girls Guides, Lions Club and I know that there is more groups out there that help keep our Town clean. I mean really, We, the Town of Kipling would not be winning Communities in Bloom awards if our town was looking a bit Sluggish. Don’t you agree?

**RESPONSE**
We, at the Citizen care about the Town of Kipling and the people that reside here and The Citizen wanted to have a column for everyone to voice their opinions. We ask questions that are brought to our attention by the people of Kipling and surrounding areas. This question was originally suggested April 18, 2008 and was scripted for the April 25, 2008 issue. Unfortunately, we could not run this article that week, due to insufficient space and did not want the people who voiced their opinion, to be unheard. The weather at that time was sluggish, the snow was melting, trees were bare and there was still no beautiful gardens blooming, it was a time between Spring and Summer. The Town Staff works hard to keep Kipling clean and you are right, the Town Staff should be recognized. Apologies to you, the Town Staff and to anyone else who took offense to my statement.
To the residents of Kipling and area,

To the Editor:
To say that it bothered me to see no child over the age of 8 play baseball in Wawota last spring would be an understatement. Growing up in Wawota and experiencing all that the game has to offer makes me think that we as leaders can and should provide the same opportunity I had as a youngster to as many kids as want to play the game.
Wawota was once the envy of many in the Saskatchewan baseball circles and inspite of all the changes and challenges we are presented with we cannot accept having so few children playing the game this spring and for many to come.
Letter to the
People of Saskatchewan,
How Does Saskatchewan Rate in Funding K-12 Education as compared to other provinces and territories in Canada? Fact is Saskatchewan has the worst rate!
IS this an important issue for you? Well if you like pay higher education property taxes than any other province it should be important for you! The Provincial Government is desperately trying to keep the school closures in Rural Saskatchewan as an “equality in education” issue when in fact it is 100% a money issue! The Calvert Government is unfairly slashing Rural Division Funding which is resulting in Rural School Boards to balance their budgets by closing schools and raising taxes!
To the Editor,
Stephen Harper’s personal vendetta against the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) continues with more disturbing examples of Conservative sabotage in the current barley plebiscite.
While Mr. Harper claims to be giving farmers a democratic vote on barley marketing, he has so badly skewed the process that the result cannot be trusted.
The Supreme Court of Canada has ruled 9-0 that the secretive security certificate program to detain terrorist suspects is unconstitutional. Stephen Harper’s parliamentary demand that related measures continue, unbalanced by human rights protection, has been rejected by our Supreme Court.

Further to the announcement a few weeks ago, regarding the closure of the Kipling Arena for the filming of the movie, Three Day Test, Council received word today that due to time restrictions the movie filming has been moved back until later this year. At this point, there has been no new firm date given.
The arena will carry on as usual for the rest of the season. Again, we thank all the user groups who have been terrific in their support for this project.

To the Editor:
Sincere thanks to our wonderful trio of doctors. Their exemplary medical professionalism, friendly accommodating manner and dedication in providing Kipling and District with invaluable service are commendable and greatly appreciated.
So, over the past week I have learned the importance of Red Bull, the energy enhancing drink. We have had extremely long days, lately, trying to get this movie done right. How long you may be asking? Try 6:30 in the morning until 12:30 at night! Twice! In a row! But other than that my time here has been very well spent.
To the Editor,
All across the province, school divisions are “reviewing” schools that, according to their classification systems, may no longer be viable. This review process includes a three-month period of consultation during which the school boards “discuss” the viability of the school with the community.
To the Editor:
The three questions Minister Strahl has introduced for the barley plebiscite and the CWB are very honest, fair and real questions. Questions that were NOT given to producers from the government of the day that forced all producers into the CWB’s iron fisted monopoly back in the days of it’s inception. Remember the days when producers trying to freely market thier own products were jailed for being free-traders in a free country?
