As I See ‘Em

• Though it may not seem real to many of us, Kipling continues to attract attention from the world of film making.

Hard on the heels of Tuesday evening’s exciting unveiling of the poster for Publicmediaworks’ upcoming production of 3-Day Test, which even makes mention of the town, comes the announcement that another production company will be filming a commercial here in less than two weeks time. This is another dividend from the world famous Red Paper Clip trade and quite a number of locals will be getting paid to appear in the commercial, we’re told. There are details elsewhere in this edition about how you can be among them. Casting is tomorrow (Saturday, December 9).

• Of course, the poster unveiling was not the only news to come out of Tuesday evening’s (rather chilly) outdoor ceremony at 515 Main St. The Board of Directors for Kipling Film Productions Inc., the local company which hopes to raise financing for the film 3-Day Test and perhaps others, was named. Regulations which govern the offering of investment opportunities are rather strict, which to some extent ties the hands of companies which are attempting to arrange financing for new ventures of any sort. As they say, rules is rules, and KFP is no exception.

• Had the opportunity to speak with Hon. Mark Wartman as the Legislative Session wrapped up. The Minister outlined a number of measures that have been taken to make Saskatchewan “family friendly” and is excited about the future of the province. He was equally excited about the developments at Kipling, terming it “a community on the move, in a province on the move.” Nice.• Corbin Bernsen popped in to give us an update on the Donna On Demand movie. As most will know, Nolan G.L. Hubbard of Kipling earned a role in Donna On Demand this past summer. Corbin says the script is completed and that Nolan has it in his hands. Filming was to have begun in November, but there have been some delays. Not the least of these is getting clearance from immigration to have Nolan (virtually unknown in the acting world) to work as an actor in the U.S. They’re still working on it. If worst comes to worst, there is the option of filming some of the movie in Canada, though in this instance it would likely be in Vancouver.
