Pencil Me in……

Go here, go there, do this, do that…. Life always seems to be so busy! Deadlines, appointments, classes, homework, overtime, we all seem to have some sort of chaos in our lives but if we take it in stride, we just might get used to the chaos and learn to adapt to it.

Schedules are definitely helpful when a person needs a routine, whether it be for work, at home or for personal reasons. It is a good feeling to know when things are going to happen and be prepared for those times. Naptime was my favorite schedule of the day, it was enough time for chores and to prepare myself with some form of sanity for the rest of the day.

Schedules are not for everyone and depending on the person, a schedule may be hard to keep. While some people live by schedules, there are also the people that live each moment at a time. Not a bad idea, considering that life events don’t always take place on schedule. This would be a great way to explore the possibilities in life without feeling the need to pencil in the time and schedule places to be, but I guess that’s what holidays are for!

I adapt better when my life is somewhat organized, I prefer to know what I will be doing, rather than doing it last minute or on a whim. I wouldn’t dare say that I live by a schedule though! It is very hard to keep a schedule in my line of work (really, in anyone’s line of work), schedule meetings and interviews, plan to take pictures at certain times, but sometimes when there is a minor twist in the day - the schedule is caput!

In those times, I am reminded that schedules aren’t always all that they are cracked up to be! The feeling of being rushed makes most feel that they are being cheated out of the entertainment and memorable moments, often missing some (what would be) most important moments. Life picks up pace when there are no restrictions and rules, people are able to unwind and let loose. They are able to live in the moment and not worry what will happen at a certain time. They are able to live.

Some things we do in life may seem useless or even a waste of time, but T.S. Elliot said it best when he quoted “time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time.”
