Rural Municipalities select councils

The Rural Municipality of Wawken No. 93 will have a vote for Reeve, and for the first time, a woman will serve on Council for the R.M. of Hazelwood.

Nomination Day for Reeve and councillors to represent odd-numbered Divisions took place Monday in rural municipalities.

In Wawken, Reeve Jack Berglund of Kennedy is being challenged by Calvin Lincoln of Wawota. Voting will take place Wednesday, November 1.

Two new councillors were elected by acclamation in Wawken. Dennis Weatherald will replace Hector Lamontagne in Division 1, while Lester Brickley will take the place of Stewart Lawrence in the Div. 3 chair. Incumbent Barry Gall was returned by acclamation in Div. 5.

In Hazelwood, Reeve Allan LaRose along with Div. 1 Councillor Cliff Slykhuis and Div. 3 Councillor Gary Gorzo, all were returned by acclamation. Joanne Meszaros was also acclaimed to represent Division 4. She replaces Ed Fonagy, who did not run.

Dale King was returned as APAS representative for Hazelwood.

In the R.M. of Golden West No. 95, all whose terms had expired were returned by acclamation. They are Reeve Garth Allan and Councillors Mike Kernahan, Ralph Allan and Kevin King for Divisions 1,3 and 5, respectively.

The R.M. of Silverwood No. 123 filled only three of the four positions available. A second nomination day will be required for Division 1, as no nominations were received. Dave Barrett has been the Div. 1 Councillor.

Reeve Bill MacPherson as well as Div. 3 Councillor Garry Bruce and Div. 5 Councillor Lance Buddecke were all returned by acclamation.

The R.M. of Kingsley No. 124 will have a new representative for Division 1, where Gordon Sproat replaces Lane Cross.

Wes Kemp will stay on in Div.3, as will Dennis Miller in Div. 5. Reeve Lorne Rygh was returned by acclamation.

Joe Widdup will once again serve as Kingsley’s APAS representative. The terms of APAS reps in even-numbered municipalities were up this year.

In the R.M. of Chester, all of the incumbents were acclaimed.

They are Reeve Stan Muchowski, Div. 1 Councillor Kevin Kapell, Div. 3 Councillor Doug Silversides and Div. 5 Councillor Gary Cole.
