Kipling will bid to name entrepreneur

The Town of Kipling is making a bid to have Scott MacDonald change his name for a year and become a walking, talking advertisement for the town.

The decision to bid came out of a regular meeting of the Council of the Town of Kipling held January 8, 2007 in council chambers. Mayor Kevin Hassler presided, with Aldermen Duane Leicht, Mark Olson, Darren Szakacs, Kevin Kish, Glenn Kuhn, Max Krescy and Administrator Gail Daku in attendance.

The Town of Kipling will make an offer to the Scott MacDonald Project of $37,373.73 to change his name to “Kipling - Future Home of the World’s Largest Red Paperclip.”

Sgt. Gord Stewart presented his report to council for the month of December 2006.

Gerry Krescy attended the meeting to give a presentation.

Council accepted the bank reconciliation and financial statement for the month of December 2006. Accounts in the amount of $61,677.97 were approved for payment.

Committee reports, along with those of the Administrator, the Community Development Officer and the Town Foreman, were heard.

The following correspondence was dealt with: Clay Serby-reply to our letter; MMCRDC - Elden Gibson; Rink Management, and Building Communities Program.

Council appointed Gail Dakue as Assessor/License Inspector/Administrator/Secretary-Treasurer for the year of 2007.

The Town will write off the 2006 taxes on Roll 474 ($811.93) as title obtained before levy was run.

Council agreed to waive the hall rent for the Kipling Rink Management Committee Ladies Night, Saturday, January 27, 2007.

The February regular council meeting will be held Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at 7:00pm.

The Town will grant the MMCRDC $3600.00 towards office expenses.

Bylaw 1-2007 being a Bylaw to repeal outdated bylaws, was given three readings and adopted.

Bylaw 2-2007 being a bylaw to regulate the Operations, parking of vehicles and the use of highways within the town, was given three readings and adopted.

Bylaw 3-2007 being a bylaw to amend Bylaw 4-1994, a bylaw to license businesses operating within the Town of Kipling, was also adopted after three readings.
