A benefit hockey game is being held this Sunday for the family of the 10-year-old Saskatchewan boy who was allegedly abducted this past summer by Peter Whitmore.
Due to a court ordered publication ban on the incident, the family cannot be identified.
The game will take place at the Whitewood Community Centre and will include members of the RCMP and the local ‘AA’ midget team, the Pipestone Valley Jets. Helping to make up the RCMP team will be members from Broadview, Kipling and Regina who were directly involved in the Whitmore case.
“The purpose of the game is to raise money for the family to help offset any personal legal expenses that they have had to incur,” said Mayor Malcolm Green. “Not only the costs that they have already had but also for any future costs that will come as the trial proceeds.”
During and since the alleged abduction of the youth last July, the family has incurred financial loss by being away from work to help the family heal and through costs associated with attending Peter Whitmore’s legal proceedings in Regina, which has seen numerous delays. The case is just now scheduled to go to trial.
Money will be raised from the game through a donation door admittance as well as through bucket raffles, a 50/50 draw and a second intermission puck toss. The Town of Whitewood and the Facility Management Committee have also agreed to donate all proceeds from the canteen sales to the family.
The benefit game will take place Sunday, January 21 at 1:00 p.m. at the Whitewood Community Centre.
