Provincial curling playdowns now at Kipling

SHSAA banner welcomes curlers and spectators to Kipling for the Provincial High School Boys curling playoffs, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Curlers from all over the province have converged on Kipling for the SHSAA Provincial High School Boys’ Curling Playdowns.


Sixteen teams are here in hopes of becoming the 2007 provincial champs.

Wednesday, February 28th curlers from all over the province began to flood into Kipling for the 2007 SHSAA Provincial High School Boys Curling Playdowns. The 16 qualifying teams will be spending the weekend, all in hopes of becoming the provincial champs.

The event got off to a start on Thursday, March 1 with the first draw at 9:00 A.M. Following the first draw, the opening ceremonies were held with more draws to follow. Kipling’s first draw of the playdowns was against the team from Kamsack Comp., with later draws to be determined depending on wins and losses. The end of the day one was finished with a banquet which was held at the Kipling Community Centre.

The first draw on Friday begins at 9:00 A.M with draws at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, 3:00 pm, 5:00 pm, and 7:00 pm to follow.

Play resumes on Saturday at 9:00 am with the last preliminary game at 12:00 pm. Semi-finals are to begin at 3:00 pm with finals to end the playdowns off at 6:00 pm.

Holy Rosary High School- Michael Hynek (lead), Sam Sweeney (second), James Hodgson (third), Alex Oracheski (skip), Jolene Strueby (Coach), and Stephanie Brandon (coach).

Kindersley Comprehensive School- Jason Maedel (lead), Kyle Anderson (second), Travis Wagner, (third), Shayne Hannon (skip), Dean McBain (fifth), and Dale Ross (Coach)

Kelliher School- Shawn Faure (lead), Matthew deGooijer (second), Alex deGooijer (third), Chris Sciog (skip), and Julie Stiglitz (Coach)

Muenster School- Matthew Strueby (lead), Neil Gossner(second), Kirk Muyres (third), Brennan Rauert (skip), and Quinton Classen (fifth)
