Science Fair challenges young mind

On Thursday, March 15, Kipling School held its fifth annual local science fair. This year, there were 79 projects involving students from grades 7-12, from Mr. Edmonds, Mr. Bangsund, Mr. Harcourts, and Mr. Lesiuk’s science classes.

The top three overall projects were:

1. Sara Fisher and Kayla King- “Keeping Away Unwanted Animals”
2. Susan Fisher- “Insulators and Conductors”
3. Tyler Armstrong- “C02- Car Safety”

The various category winners this year are:

Grade 7/8 (Junior)

1. Susan Fisher- “Insulators and Conductors”
2. Darylanne Hamelin and Nicole Levey- “Left and Right Brain”
3. Tayler Balog and Dean Barath- “Wind Turbines”
4. Makyla Daku- “Animal Assisted Therapy”
4. Shelby King and Shawna Bain- “Tastebuds”

Grade 9/10 (Intermediate)

1. Sara Fisher and Kayla King- “Keeping Away Unwanted Animals”
2. Natasha Ku- “Music”
3. Alyssa Luscombe- “Dunstan Baby Language”
3. Katharine McCarthy- “Crystal Clear Sound”
4. Chelsea Lyons and Bethan Weeding- “Avian Ambryo”
5. Braeden Ferch- “Guitars”
5. Ashley Hengen and Rebecca Windjack- “Energy Supplements”

Grade 11/12 (Senior)

1. Tyler Armstrong- “CO2 -Car Safety”
2. Jeremy Larson and Travis Kish- “Electric Cars”
3. Erin Toppings- “Butter vs Margarine”
4. Rebecca Balogh and Breanne Blackstock- “High Blood Pressure”
5. Kalum Savage and Eric Ng- “Ethanol”

All of these projects now go on to the South East Regional Science Fair, to be held in Fillmore on Wednesday, March 21. The students will do an awesome job of representing Kipling and surrounding communities and area. We wish them luck and success.
