Dana Sproat and Rhonda Balogh organized an evening of ‘fun and sun,’ inside the Kipling Recreation Center on Saturday, May 10th. Ladies from Kipling, and surrounding areas, joined together for a Luau celebration, supper and runway fashion show.
The evening consisted of a savoury tropical meal, served and cleaned up by the Kipling Figure Skating Club, and drinks served at the bar by Harvey Rapp, Roger Neibergall and Dwayne Leight. The guests were dressed in bright colors, grass skirts and flower leis. Each table, named after a Hawaiin destination, was asked a trivia question and for each correct answer, the table would win a point. The table with the highest amount of points won a bottle of wine. Decorated clay flowerpots were filled with goodies and handed out to each of the ladies in attendance. Numerous people, and companies, donated door prizes and auction items to the event. Watch gift sets, donated by Sandie Ede, were given to all the ladies that attended. Karla Roppel was the winner of the diamond ring, donated by the Plainsview Credit Union.
The evening would not have been complete without the fashion show put on by Kings clothing of Carlyle. King and his team of models put on an entertaining runway fashion show, demonstrating the fashions available for all ages. Names were drawn for one lucky guest to win a free item of their choice. Nick Windjack, of Windthorst, provided the variety of music for the fashion show.
“We had a great turnout. There were over 90 ladies, far exceeding our expectations. Everyone enjoyed themselves which makes the hard work worthwhile,” says Rhonda Balogh.
The Ladies Night had a great turnout, twice as many from the previous year. Sproat and Balogh reached their fundraising goal for the Kipling Rink, and were already planning for the event next year.
