Dionne Hengen

Park Interpreter

With the birds chirping and trees blooming, nature is quickly preparing us for another very exciting time of the year… You guessed it, summer time at the Moose Mountain Provincial Park!

This year you are in for a definite treat. The parks visitor program has four very active and personable folks ready at your service. Sarah Schaffer, the head interpreter for the Southeast Park Area, will be kept busily on her feet, as she leads the interpretive programs at Moose Mountain Provincial Park, Cannington Manor Provincial Park, and Crooked Lake Provincial Park. Once again, you will be blessed with the presence of Shelagh Gillmore. Ah yes, many of you may be wondering where the friendly Shelagh Morris has gone… Do not fret my friends, for Shelagh Morris has now wed a Gillmore - she has returned a married woman! As for the other two interpreters, you will soon be introduced to the Dionne Twins. Now let me explain myself… This summer, you will be treated by not only one, but two Dionnes; Dionne Tatlow and Dionne Hengen. Dionne Tatlow has ventured down from Saskatoon for her very first summer at Moose Mountain Provincial Park. She is helping coach the 12 and under Carlyle girls’ baseball team, so if you see her around the diamonds, be sure to spark up a conversation! Last but not least, I, Dionne Hengen of Kipling, have also joined the interpretive gang to help make this a memorable year at our provincial park. As a team, we promise to do our best in delivering the programs that you enjoy!

We have spent much of May attending training programs and preparing for the season opener: May Long Weekend. This May Long, we treated the public to giant inflatable Dinobouncers, a movie night featuring Over The Hedge, the kick off to our weekly drop-in center, and Moose Mountain Jeopardy. Moose Mountain Jeopardy was a great success and the attendees were not only given prizes, but were also surprised by our very own mascot, Max the Moose. We hope to run a future Moose Mountain Jeopardy and I encourage you to come out and test out your knowledge of Moose Mountain Park!

Currently, we are hectically preparing ourselves for a very busy upcoming season! School groups begin to arrive at the end of this week, and we cannot wait until we are able to share our newfound knowledge with others. For those teachers who have yet to book a field trip, it is not too late! Our office hours run from 8am-5pm, and you can reach us at 577-2615. We appreciate feed back about the programs we run; please feel free to write us. Address questions or comments to Moose Mountain Provincial Park Visitor Programs, Kenosee Lake, Box 220, S0C 2S0. We would love to hear how feel about our interpretive programs.

The monthly calendar is presently being developed and will be completed and delivered in mid June. I look forward on reporting to you on a weekly basis, as we have a big summer ahead of us. Stop in at the Visitor Center to check out our displays and meet the crew - we are here for your convenience! Until next time…
