Open Letter to The Citizen and the citizens of Kipling:
The saying goes - ‘If you’re not growing - you’re going’, so here’s a unique growth opportunity for Kipling. Other communities would salivate over this, a chance to build new infrastructure for diversification and jobs.
Now Kipling is already on the map because of the Red Paperclip house and I’ve heard other communities around the world are kicking themselves for not snapping up this opportunity. Global news agencies are aware of Kipling so now is the time to nurture this next opportunity.
Having just returned to Vancouver I continue to discover magic in Kipling. We were all dazzled at the reception residents gave my son Kyle on July 12 (house trading day) and the Labour Day Weekend. We now hear Kipling got either $4 million or $40 million of free international advertising - not sure what the real number is. But that’s not the point - it gets back to Kipling magic.
Last week I sat in a room of about 50 people listening to Corbin Bernsen lay out a plan to bring investment and talent together. Corbin’s told me several times he is truly enchanted with Kipling. Call it a personal epiphany or whatever, but he is willing to invest time and money to give back what he’s received.
Now simply take a moment to think about that. Not only does Corbin want to shoot a movie in your own community, he wants to start some new infrastructure to allow Kipling to grow and prosper. We all want to capture the magic that somehow generates here, keep young and old from moving, and create jobs. Like any investment portfolio it is wise to diversify. Now is the time for Kipling to diversify in its future.
Those that see his vision will enable Kipling to prosper. Here is his list of projects so far:
1. “3 Day Test” as outlined in the last public meeting.
2. Corbin returned to Los Angeles and a film distributor is looking for him to shoot yet another movie about, (now wait for this) . . . Hockey. The movie is called “Sticks”. And Corbin says he has the perfect location - Kipling of course!
3. A yet unnamed movie (featuring) Lloyd Warner.
4. “Win in Kipling” - a TV series involving bringing a host of creative people to live and work in Kipling.
$400,000 is needed to start the first step with “3 Day Test”.
I hope you will invest in these projects. I personally believe in this so much I have committed $10,000, and I don’t even live here!
