Kipling, You are Amazing!
We hope that we can communicate to you the immense gratitude and great respect that we have for the people of Kipling and the Moose Mountain Central RDC.
A community and its leaders always take a risk when they hire community development people. When you bring someone in from outside of your community you have the opportunity to see the community through new eyes. This may show you opportunities that exist but that are not being pursued. On the other hand, you might have an outsider that does not understand the local culture or social structure and who sees opportunities that are not a good fit for your community.
Our communities are very special and dear to us, they mean different things to each of us, they are diverse, they represent opportunity, family, friends, our businesses, our jobs and most importantly, our homes. A person working in community development must always be aware of the responsibility of representing their community in a positive way and looking for opportunities that improve the quality of life for its residents.
It is this duty that Marcie and I always tried to keep in mind while working in the community development office. We hope that we represented your community appropriately and that we helped to make it better.
We know that the talents, creativity and fortitude of the citizens of Kipling and the Moose Mountain Central RDC are equal to the tasks at hand. We know you can follow through and as you have already proven in the short time we have been gone, create even more opportunities for yourselves. Your new community development staff is showing as much dedication to their jobs as we did, maybe even more.
Thank you to Duane and Joyce for telling us about Kipling and working hard to get us there. Thank you to the Kipling Town Council and the board of the RDC for the opportunity to work for your organizations. Thank you to all of those who we worked with and who made us their friends.
A hometown has a special meaning for many people. Were it not for the opportunity for Bert to work in community development in his hometown of Estevan, we would still be in Kipling.
We were residents of Kipling for less than two years, but it was an amazing time, a time that we will never forget and that we will always hold dear. 2006 was one of the best year’s we ever had, better than we could have ever imagined. Thank you all for letting us be part of an amazing adventure in your community.
We wish all of you much happiness and great success in all of your endeavors!
Happy New Year!
Marcie and Bert Roach
