If you are between the ages of 12-18 (male or female) and would like to join the Army Cadets talk to Mr. Rod Holowaty of Kipling.
Cadets meet once a week, on Wednesdays, in Montmartre. There is no cost to join. Uniforms are supplied free of charge.
Depending on how many cadets there are, parents take turns driving. A driving schedule will be made up when the number of cadets is determined. They leave from “The Den” downtown Kipling, at 6:00 p.m. every Wednesday.
Army Cadets learn citizenship skills, map and compass, outdoor training and general military training. You also will get a chance to participate in weekend exercises, compete in x country skiing (biathlon), attend sports weekend and even attend military band workshops, or shoot in the Saskatchewan rifle competition.
Each summer, cadets are selected to attend summer camps in Vernon, Ottawa, Whitehorse or Banff. There is no cost to parents. In fact cadets attending six week camps are paid.
Camps include rifle, band, pipes and drums, athletic training, quartermaster, survival, drill and ceremonial.
The Montmartre corps begin sessions on Wednesday, September 13. If you feel you would like to join, get your parents to call me at 736-8362. I can then arrange a system where parents can take turns driving.
