The Annual Meeting of the Kipling and District Historical Society was held on April 23, 2008. Board of Directors consists of President Vern Pusch, Vice-president Lorne Rygh, Secretary Elaine Hamelin, Treasurer Anna Meszaros, Enos Sproat, Gordon Toppings, Terry Ovans, Gloria Ovans, Peter Daku, Bette Klein, Cliff Johnson, Allan Katona and Tony Balogh.
Financial Report for 2007 indicated Receipts of $8232.40 and Disbursements of $5828.43. Operating Grants for 2008 have been received from Sask. culture through the Museums Grants Program and the Community Lotteries Grant through Kipling Parks and Recreation which are funded by Saskatchewan Lotteries. The new format for the Financial Statement for Department of Justice and current insurance coverage was reviewed.
Communities in Bloom Evaluation for Natural and Cultural Conversation was acknowledged from the Town of Kipling. The Museum site has received very positive assessments from the judges as improvement is seen from year to year. It would be more beneficial if more people could participate on the day the judges come. Much appreciation and “Thank you” to all the folks in the community who volunteer with this project.
A need for more space for displays and activities was discussed. Vern Pusch, Cliff Johnson, Terry Ovans and Tony Balogh were delegated to look into obtaining another building for this purpose.
The Kipling Historical Society extends their appreciation and recognition to Maisie Burton for her many years of volunteerism in working, painting, upkeep and support given to the Historical Society and Museum.
Programming for 2008 includes:
Kipling School Heritage Fair Grades 4 and 8: April 23 - Bette Klein has organized judges for the Grade 8 displays.
Tuesday, June 10th: Superannuated Teachers Annual Meeting; at the Museum Church. Lunch provided by the Historical Society.
Friday, June 20th: Bake Sale, and Hamburger lunch at noon. Donations of bakings are appreciated and can be brought to the Museum or left with a Board member. NO garage sale this year. Watch for posters.
Sunday, June 29th: Kipling Ministerial/ Canada Day Service at Edenland Church; ‘Beef on A Bun’ meal at noon.
Sunday, August 12th: Annual Museum Day; ‘Beef on A Bun’ Meal
Friday and Sat., Aug.29th, 30th: participation in Red Paperclip Day/ Museum Open
Kipling Parks and Recreation Summer Program: Half day per week.
Kipling Centennial Planning Committee: Vern Pusch and Anna Meszaros will represent the Historical Society.
Walking Tour information Booklets: Lorne Rygh will attend Town of Kipling Office.
Several projects and displays were discussed and will be worked on over summer, as time and finances are available.
Development and grounds improvement is ongoing throughout the summer. Volunteers and donations are greatly needed and appreciated. Museum Hours will be ‘Open Saturday from 1:00 to 5:00 PM’ during July and August and any other times by request by contacting any board members. Names and phone numbers will be posted at the Museum. School tours and family and School Reunion Tours are welcome.
