The transition to flip-flops and popsicles is complete, yet the question of what to do to stay active is common, and the answer is so easy! GET OUTSIDE.
Parents and children need to know that organized sport programs are not the only way to be active. Investing in any type of physical activity is important when raising healthy kids.
Ride your bikes to get around, walk to the ball diamonds to play catch, throw the Frisbee around in the yard, or hit the pool on a hot Saturday afternoon. Now is the perfect time to add a few more minutes outside to your active day.
An interesting and new idea:
Map Reading and Run/Walk Activity-Active Kids Challenge
Have your active kids draw a map of their backyard, nearby field or park. Make a running course around the area and mark it on the drawing, including easily recognizable landmarks. Map out a variety of routes. Using a colored marker, draw a run/walk path on each map. (http://www.runningroom.com/hm/inside.php?id=2907)
Have fun and keep active!
