With Nomination Day fast approaching for towns and villages, prospective councillors are reminded to file their nomination papers on time.

At Kipling, at least two members of council have indicated they will not be seeking reelection. Aldermen Gerry Krecsy and Maurice Poirier will be stepping down.

Several nomination forms have been taken out, but the number of candidates seeking seats on Council will not be known until after the 4:00pm nomination deadline Wednesday, November 27.

Sources say most if not all of Kipling’s other four aldermen are considering letting their names stand once again.

It is also anticipated that Mayor Pat Jackson will be seeking another term. It appears that there may be at least one other candidate, though that could not be confirmed.

Both Glenavon and Kennedy will be looking for new mayors, it appears.

Bruce Hagerman resigned earlier this year as mayor of Glenavon and it was decided to wait until election time to find a replacement. At this point it appears Alderman Herb Schmidt is the most likely candidate for the top job. That would leave room for at least one new aldermanic candidate.

Kennedy Mayor Elmer Molnar has also indicated that he will not be running this time around.

That would leave at least two positions to be filled. Council has been operating one alderman short since Glen Heebner’s departure. Clair Dorrance is also undecided, sources say.

At Windthorst, Alderman Bill Hengen does not intend to seek reelection, which would leave at least one seat available there.

There is also room at the council table for the Village of Kenosee, where alderman Rene Kenler is stepping down and word is that Joan Seibel is undecided at this point.

Nominations are being accepted during regular office hours, which vary from community to community, and until 4:00pm on the final nomination day, Wednesday, September 27.

Town Councils consist of a mayor and six aldermen, while villages have a mayor and four aldermen.
