Kingswood Golf’s second annual Farmers Tournament was held at Kipling, Sept. 23.
The opening nine holes were played at full length, in a texas scramble format.
For the afternoon session, the holes were shortened to par three length and hole-in-one prizes of up to $10,000 were offered on each of the holes. None of these was won on this day. However the hole sponsors had also provided merchandise prizes, awarded either by draw or for nearest the pin.
The tournament was open to farmers and sponsors. Fifty-three golfers took part.
The top score on the first nine was 32, posted by the foursome of Floyd Toppings, Lloyd Rolufs, Kevin Cheyne and Kevin Hassler.
In the second round, the team of Stew McIntyre, Ludger Poncelet, Brian Stefaniuk and Jim Szucs carded a 25 to take top honours.
Between rounds the golfers enjoyed lunch compliments of K & E Rentals of Kipling.
Hole sponsors included Plainsview Credit Union and Double Bar S Veterinary Service of Kipling; Cargill Ltd., Langbank; Langbank Co-op; Cargill Specialty Canola; Kipling Co-op; Graham Dayle, C.A., Kipling; Dusyk Enterprises Ltd., Montmartre; Louis Dreyfus, Glenavon; and Kapell AgriMotive of Kipling.
Hole-in-one sponsors were Cheyne Agri Services, Kipling; Seed Hawk Inc. of Langbank; Mazer Implements (New Holland) of Moosomin; Young’s Equipment Inc., Windthorst; Investor’s Group, McMillan Motor Products and OK Ag & Auto Parts, all of Kipling.
Prizes were awarded at supper, which was held at the Legion club rooms. Coordinator Cliff Clark expressed thanks to the sponsors and to the golfers whose participation helped make the tournament a success.
