Publicly funded influenza immunization clinics for high-risk individuals are scheduled to begin across the province on Monday, November 6, 2006, about a month later than usual.
High risk individuals should still be able to receive their immunizations before the peak flu season of December or later. The high risk group includes people over the age of 65, residents of long term care facilities, children between the ages of 2 to 23 months and anyone with a chronic health condition. These high risk groups receive the vaccine free.
The delay is due to reported problems growing one of the strains recommended for this year’s flu shot.
