Saskatchewan Library Week is October 16-23. As well, 2006 is Southeast Regional Library’s 40th Anniversary. Kipling Library is celebrating this milestone with an Open House on October 20 during their Friday open hours of 12:30-5:30. Birthday celebrations will be held on Thursday for preschoolers and elementary children during their regular times (10:30 AM for Preschool Story Time, and in the afternoon for grade school visits.)
Kipling was one of the communities active in the creation of a regional library, officially joining on October 18, 1966. The Kipling branch has been presented a 40th Anniversary certificate in recognition of their contribution initially and over the past 40 years.
Library week is celebrated across the province in rural and urban centres, in all types of libraries, and by people of all ages. This year’s library week theme is Lifelong Learning @ your library. Libraries are dynamic community centres for learning, information and entertainment. They provide more than just printed materials but also access to computers, the Internet and programs. They are institutions that are within everyone’s reach, regardless of age, education or income level — the ultimate equal opportunity resource. Library staff people are information smart in an information rich world. Libraries are a place for life-long learning apart from formal education or courses and a community agency for self-improvement and economic development.
Saskatchewan Library Week and Southeast Regional Library’s 40th Anniversary is a time to be proud of what libraries are all about! Join us for anniversary cake and coffee, and take a tour of library services. Review the history of the library and view quilts on display.
