The amount invested in Kipling Film Productions Inc. has reached the $200,000 mark, according to a spokesman.
Filming locations for the Public Media Works movie Three Day Test will be firmed up within the next few days and set construction is to get under way shortly thereafter.
Loretta Demyen of the Town of Kipling’s Economic Development Office, says those who hope to be a part of the project will need some preparatory training.
SIAST Wascana Campus, in conjunction with Southeast Regional College and the Saskatchewan Motion Picture Association, will be offering these classes in Kipling beginning March 2.
A Set Safety / Set Protocol class will be offered March 2-4. This 15-hour class which begins Friday evening is required for any entry-level job or on-the-job training opportunity in Saskatchewan’s film industry. Students will learn about the scope of practice for each occupation within film, video and new media, reporting structures and union regulations. They will also study health and safety issues as they relate to a production set.
There will also be a Grips and Electrics course offered, and a Film and Video Practicum credit can be earned during production.
Demyen says the courses are a great opportunity for those interested in learning about and working in the film industry, as they are rarely offered in small centres. Details are available at the RDC / Economic development office.
