With fluffy fresh snow on the ground and a good winter chill Broadview is preparing for Bustin ‘N Broadview, the 2007 Provincial Snowmobile Festival. The Broadview Snow Busters Snowmobile Club are hosting the event this year from Feb. 23 -25.
Dale Richter says the club had to make a bid to get the festival. “You have to have a project in mind to raise funds for, our goal was to purchase a groomer and build a drag, which is what we’ve done”, says Richter.
Richter says they have been busy planning for the event since last summer. They raised some money, built new signs, set up sponsors and booked entertainment many months ago.
With the date of the festival looming closer he says the club can’t wait. “Everybody’s really excited and everybody has been pitching in to get ready”.
Richter says they’re hoping for 250 to 300 people from all over the province. He says they know there’s a group riding down from Flin Flon.
The festival starts out on Friday night with registration, entertainment and a late lunch.
Saturday boasts the usual pancake breakfast and after lunch participants enjoy the guided groomed trails cared for by the club.
The evening is rounded out with cocktails and a banquet. Awards will be handed out for youngest, oldest, groups, and the like. There’s entertainment by comedian Big Daddy Taz, Carla Taylor and the Electric Outlaws from Wolseley.
On the final day they are holding their annual poker derby that goes all day long followed by a steak supper.
All local businesses will be open and people will be able to go skating, curling, bowling and play some card games.
The festival is a chance to attract tourists to the area all year long and to promote the groomed trails maintained by the club.
The festival is put on annually by the Saskatchewan Snowmobile Association and Co-op dealers. Registration is under $100 dollars making it quite affordable.
“It will be a full, fun filled weekend, full of snowmobiling”, says Richter.
