The Kennedy Skating Carnival was held on Friday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. Our theme was Kennedy’s 100th Birthday and we spotlighted some of Kennedy’s local talent.
A tribute to Kennedy Langbank School was first on the program and all of the skaters wore “I Love KLS” t-shirts and skated to “Small Town” and “We Love Saskatchewan.” Then Gabrielle Dube and Alyssa Panteluk skated to “Are You Ready For Me”
Our local guest skater Bret Cancade did a wonderful job skating to “My Boyfriend’s Back”.
A solo by Brooke Hourd was next skating to “I Am Canadian.”
The stage seven canskate girls were next skating to “Happy Birthday”. They include Brynn Bourhis, Davan Munro, Celina Cummins, Logan Schmidt, Emily Dubois, and Gabrielle Dube. Paige Lawrence, another guest skater from Kennedy, wowed the crowd with “Think”.
Next we had a tribute to Eli Barsi. Eli is a Canadian recording artist who has won many awards on both sides of the border and originates from Kennedy, Rosie Shick skated to Eli’s song “Second Hand Saddle.”
Guest skater Rudi Swiegers then entertained us with “Everybody Dance Now.” Jacey Tarr did a good job on her solo “Little Red Rodeo.”
Next we spotlighted the Langbank Lions for all the hard work they do around our communities. They have donated a lot to our rink and organize benefits that help those in need. “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” was performed by the canskate girls Kyla Hall, Josie Harrison, Malayna Margetts, Kayla Munro, and Zoe Dubois.
During intermission, pot of gold was won by Rob Humphries $162.50.
Raffles were won by Kent Schmidt-2 Eli Barsi CDs and Reggie Wilson won the basket of items donated by Colleen Sostorics, Eli Barsi, Blake Burglund, Langbank Lions, Moose Mountain Rodeo, KLS, and the village of Kennedy.
Next Jayd Hall skated to “Rodeo” to pay tribute to Moose Mountain Rodeo which will celebrate its 75th year.
Bret Cancade skated to “Shall We Dance” before Brooke Hourd, Jacey Tarr, and Rosie Schick skated to “Play Something Country.”
“I Wanna Go” was Alyssa Panteluk’s solo.
Then the canskate boys’ Wyatt Hall, Cole, Nolan, and Mason Cameron paid a tribute to our local hockey player Colleen Sostorics. Colleen has won two Olympic gold medals with the national women’s hockey team and we showed how proud we are of her with our little hockey players skating with their own gold medals.
Paige and Rudi then skated their pairs number and were thrilling.
The Star group of Jacey Tarr, Jayd Hall, Brie Schmidt, Rosie Schick, Brooke Hourd and Alyssa Panteluk skated to another Eli Barsi song “Sweet Sixteen.”
Blake Burglund’s songs “Hey Nostradamus” and ” 3 Hearts” played for the finale. Blake has recently released a self titled album.
Our guest skaters and coach Erin Walker were then presented with gifts of appreciation and our skaters received a flower.
