The CP Weyburn Bantam AA completed their semi-final round of league playoffs against the Balgonie Prairie Storm. The Weyburn team clenched victory during the first game 7-5 in Pilot Butte last week.
Game 2 was in Weyburn on Tuesday, March 18th and ended with a 4-3 (OT) win for the Prairie Storm. Balgonie scored early during the first; however, Reid Jackson answered back with an unassisted goal and Tayler Balog scored the go ahead goal with assists going to Casey Pirio and Jackson. Second period action saw no scoring for Weyburn and Balgonie had 2 more goals, leaving the game 3-2 for Balgonie after the second. Nearing the end of the third with 1:11 left, Balog lit the lamp, assists to Brent Benson and Garret Walbaum sending them into sudden death overtime. However, Balgonie scored, tying the series one game a piece. Nate Ferris took the loss as Weyburn outshot their opponents 26-22.
Game 3 was in Balgonie on Thursday, March 20th where Balgonie scored again early during first period of play. However, Balog scored unassisted, tying the game 1-1. During the second period Ashton Sautner lit the lamp post, assists to Derrick Pouliot and Walbaum. Balgonie was scoreless during second period action, where Weyburn took the lead. During the third Balgonie tied it up and then with a little over three minutes left in the period they scored again. Weyburn battled hard but ran out of time, losing the game 3-2. Nate Ferris played a stellar game, taking the loss as Weyburn and Balgonie were tied for shots 22-22.
