An exciting new game hits store shelves this Christmas. Kip-Opoly Centennial Edition, Kipling’s version of the very-loved Monoply board game, should be printed and ready for local businesses to sell by this holiday season.
The Kipling Town Council and the Community Development sees this as the perfect time to create the new board game. “Why we want to do it now is we want it on the shelves for Christmas time cause 2009 is our centennial year,” said Loretta Demyen, Community Development Officer. “It’s kind of a kick off for centennial.”
So far, Demyen noticed an overwhelming interest in the game. Due to that fact, she’s put a May 1 deadline on the sale of properties and games cards. Properties are going for $200 a piece while community chest and chance game cards are for sale at $50. Any business purchasing a game card will dictate what the card reads. For example, ‘Free one year subscription for the Kipling Citizen. Collect $40.’
Businesses can pre-order games for staff or to sell at their place of business by contacting Demyen at 736-8399 or stopping by the Community Development office. Further, any business who has not already purchased a property or game card and would like to do so, be sure to speak with Demyen prior to May 1. As the game has received such overwhelming interest, and there are not enough properties on the board, businesses will receive a property spot based on a first come, first serve basis. “We’ve been stamping dates as they are coming in,” said Demyen. So, to ensure a spot on the board, be sure to see Demyen sooner than later.
Any business who does not get a spot on the board can still purchase game cards, at the aforementioned $50 a piece.
Demyen and the rest of the committee putting the game together have ideas of where certain business will be placed on the board, but that all depends on who steps up and buys property. “We have an idea of how we want it to look, but certain businesses have to step up for that to work,” said Demyen.
The Kipling Town Council and Community Development will begin piecing the game together in the coming months.
