Parkland Bible Church

We were the host venue for Good Soil Theatre at Parkland Bible Church on April 22nd, at 7 p.m.

There was some really tasty desserts as a part of the evening. There was no ticket sales for this evening. A free will took place after the performance.
If you have ever wanted to escape to a remote island in the South Pacific, Good Soil Theatre’s new production of Prodigal Missionary gives you that chance.

In a creative new theatrical format that some would call a stage play and some a movie, Prodigal Missionary transports you to the island nation of Fiji through live performance and top notch interactive video. The live stage characters carry on actual conversations with people in Fiji in a seamless manner that makes you feel like you are actually sitting on the beach under the palm trees.

The story, however, is not all sand and surf. It is the compelling tale of an estranged father and son who are as far apart emotionally as they are physically. Kevin Doyle has a passion to help others. Over the years, he has used his vacation time to take his family to many countries of the world with a plan to show them “God’s classroom”. Now he is bitter, and his wife, Jocelyn, isn’t sure how to reach him. His son, Matthew, angry at always having to sacrifice his life for his Dad’s dream took off the first chance he got. Now, in a unique twist of fate, Matt is stranded on a remote island in Fiji where he is compelled to continue his father’s work for his room and board.

A village chief with ambiguous motives, the chief’s pretty daughter, and a classroom full of eager young Fijian students make Matthew feel like a modern day Jonah. His own choices are given a test when marijuana dealers turn up on the other side of the island, and begin using his school kids to sell their product. In a story taken from Fijian headlines, Matthew finds himself with no place to turn but up.

The story is told with stunning visuals shot on location in Fiji and Vancouver and projected on a huge video screen. The live actors interact with each other, Fijian children, and others as they appear on screen. You will be transported around the world for an unique evening of theatre and a powerful story about fathers and sons, and Prodigal Missionary answers the question: Can a shipwreck save your life?

Good Soil Theatre is part of Seeds International, a Christian missionary organization that reaches out to children with life-building curriculum. Donations will be taken at the end of the show to help support this work.
